in April 2014 – beneath the river’s surface over 2,500,000 alewives migrated upstream until they reached the Benton Falls dam.

Beneath the surface thousands of alewives, some days wall to wall, are moving upstream.
If you look at the surface of the river sometimes it will churn and flash silver with fish.
If you stand in the river you can feel them swirling around you,
determined to get upstream to the quiet waters where they will spawn. sometimes harbor seals will follow the fish inland as far as Benton Dam.
Osprey, Cormorants, and Bald Eagles are in attendance during the entire run.
